When we talk wine in Uruguay, above all, we talk about Tannat. When we choose a wine to go with beef, we choose Tannat. We have been producing it for the last 130 years. As our own history, this wine was created by the inspiration of an immigrant and today it represents Uruguay "for export”. As in several life occasions, in this there was a bit of luck and a lot of determination. A native vine from Madiran (southwest of France) grown in the Atlantic Pyrenees found a new habitat in the other side of the ocean which can both separate and joint. It was not easy at first. It took a decade to find the a suitable way to grow the vine known under the name “Harriague” –honoring the French Basque who introduced it – but the wish to have a good land wine made it possible.

The new international scene with the constitution of economic blocks, tax allowances and globalization of the world economy, has been positive to the international commerce of wines from the new producer countries. Moreover, the new political and socio–cultural changes within the region, such as the creation of the MERCOSUR (Mercado Comun del Sur-SOUTHERN COMMON MARKET) in 1991, have affected the Uruguayan economy making structural changes necessary in production and particularly in trade.
URUGUAYAN WINES, with their strengths and advantages, are currently one of the new options for the great international market which to date are already consumed by more than 30 countries in the world, among the most important ones are: Brazil, USA, Canada, Mexico, France, United Kingdom and Poland.

Wines with a unique perfume
Dark red, bluish Bordeaux, almost black with violet reflections, echoes of youth kept for a long time.
Flavors with a remembrance of ripen red fruits, figs and prunes, candied fruit, marmalade and spices. The taste is not less important and it feels intense and balanced with a strong body brought forward by the color as a harmonic whole, whatever the style, young and fruity or grown and complex on the elegant touches of noble and well place wood. Mono varietals nicely tannic and fleshy or poli varietals, a mix of tactile attributes of smoothness and aromatic in a great variety.
Its differentiated style and its unmistakable sensorial profile contribute to its diversity and identity, and this is one of the aspects of its international quality better acknowledged.

Thanks to the strict controls carried out in every procedure of the chain, the Uruguayan production has a guarantee of quality. This is shown by every award and international recognition. A 100of the recollection in the vineyards is handmade. This keeps the excellent conditions of the grape as well as its fragrance and taste. The mixtures are treated in a personalized manner. This may only be assured when the scales of production are small as they are in Uruguay. Therefore Uruguayan Tannat may be homemade produced and at the same time in a highly technical manner.
